Window Energy Ratings – what is all the fuss about?
From 2010 the minimum permitted window energy rating for a window to be fitted in your home will be C.
Sunrise Windows are already well in advance of this requirement.
In fact we have always insisted on using the finest materials available, for examples:
- For the all-important spacer bar we use the new Thermobar by Thermoseal
- All our windows we use the exceptional PLANITHERM glass. See www.planitherm.com
Although there are different specifications for different systems – the guidance below is typical for a rated PVCu window:
C Rated
This is the absolute minimum we would ever install for one of our customers.
For a C rated window there are no special requirements in the general method of window manufacture. The glass and spacer bar must conform to the following:
- Inner pane = Planitherm total plus glass
- Cavity = air filled cavity with Thermobar
- Outer pane = standard 4mm glass
A Rated
For an A rated window the window has to be manufactured slightly differently – we have to make sure that foam is inserted in the main chamber in the outer frame only – this is to enhance the thermal efficiency of the frame
The glass is the same as for a B rated window
- Inner pane = Planitherm total plus glass
- Cavity = argon gas filled cavity with Thermobar
- Outer pane = Diamant glass
Presently there are NO ratings available for doors
Please note the above are guidelines only and should be taken as examples only.
